HOW TO TAKE AMAZING PHOTOS
Hit us with your BEST shot!
Perhaps you’re wondering why you need to take great photos for your application. With more and more artisans applying to craft shows you’ll want to be sure that your product stands out to the show organizers. So basically, your photos are: your STOREFRONT, your PLATFORM, your chance to IMPRESS and SHOWCASE your product! |
How do I take a great shot, you may ask?
1. USE NATURAL LIGHT.
Keep it indirect and watch for shadows, including your own. Indoor artificial lighting can cast a hue and if the light is too low, your pic can be grainy.
2. BACKGROUND.
For indoors ... neutral colours are best (white, beige, black, gray), no pattern. Sheeting, tablecloth, bristol board all work well. Contrasting the background with the product allows it to stand out. Ensure there are no ‘extras’ in behind ... chairs, windows, cupboards ... you get it. Use nature at its best for outdoor backgrounds. Always focusing on your product.
3. STAGING/PROPS.
These will give your photo dimension and personality, but make sure to keep it simple. Don’t let your product get lost ... it should occupy 2/3 of the pic. Remember - one product per photo.
4. MOST IMPORTANTLY.
Take good, clean, attractive photos. Move closer instead of zooming in. Take your time, take many shots and choose your best.
Edit ... lighten, darken, crop, enhance.
Do I need a professional camera?
You sure don’t. Todays smartphones and tablets are da bomb!
